Romans 4:20-21 NIV 2011
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
Paul began his discourse on Abraham in chapter four. He let God’s faithful in Rome know no one can do enough good things to be counted righteous by God. He then moved on by stating religious ceremonies can’t save anyone. Believers are saved through faith not because of their faith. Romans 4:18, “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’” Abraham believed and was blessed with a son that was born when he was 100. God blesses all who are saved by faith and obey Him.
Abraham’s story has always amazed me. The first time I studied Genesis was after Mandi passed. I have since added three additional times. Abraham’s story of obedience always humbles me. His unwavering faith has always been a model of faith through it all! Being willing to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac continues to put a lump in my throat. He obediently went to Moriah to do what God asked him to do: sacrifice his precious son. But God provided a ram instead to sacrifice. God wants me to daily faithfully obey Him and for that he blesses me.
What is God asking of us today?
