Psalm 40:1, Isaiah 40:31 NIV 2011

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

David began his prayer when trouble surrounded him. Whether it was sin or extraneous circumstances, he knew that the Lord was his help in the past. He waited. Psalm 37:7, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” He knew God would hear his prayer. Psalm 6:9, “The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayers.” Isaiah knew the Babylonian exile was coming to an end. His words gave assurance the Israelites. God was present in their lives. Though weary and alone the Lord would strengthen them. Hope in the Lord renews strength.

God’s Word is filled with the renewing of His people. Even in those dark times of our lives, God is still at work renewing us for His good purposes. Sometimes when we cry out, He hears but His answer is “No!” It’s during those times I wait patiently for His new direction for my life. Each season of my life is met by waiting patiently: not mothering our girls, changing careers and moving to new homes. Sometimes weary and alone, I’m strengthened because my hope’s in the Lord.

How does the Lord strengthen us daily?

Hoping in Him,
