Hebrews 9:14 NIV 2011

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Commentator’s coeless around this; the Spirit refers to the “Holy Spirit, who empowered Jesus to fulfill his mission. Matthew 3:16, “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. Jesus was the one who offered himself as the sacrifice. Ephesians 5:2, “and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Jesus redeemed believers. Titus 2:14, “who gives himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” Jesus came to save sinners that will serve God.

R. C. Sproul, a theologian and ordained Presbyterian pastor, walked into eternity on December 14, 2017. One of his 40 quotes, “Not only does Christ take our sins, our debts, and our demerits, but he also gives us his obedience, his assets, and his merits.” He was a faithful servant of Christ spanning the life of his ministry. I’ve used his commentary for years and appreciated his Biblical perspective. I was saved through the blood of Christ, thankfully. Jesus saved me to serve God, daily!

How have we been saved to serve Him?

His faithful servants,
