Psalm 4:6-8 NIV 2011
Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
The Lord protected David even before he was king. Being pursued by Saul and his army constantly, he learned to trust in the Lord. Psalm 3:6, “I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” David sought the Lord’s guidance at every turn. Psalm 34:10, “The lions may grow weak and angry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” He felt the Lord’s presence daily. Psalm 3:5, “I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me.” Believers are safe in the Lord.
If you’ve ever played tag, you know you are always safe at “home base.” Though David probably had no time to play tag as a shepherd, He knew he found safety in the Lord. In baseball you are safe when you reach a base or home plate before the ball or you are tagged. For those of us who’ve placed our faith in Jesus Christ we’ve been given the Holy Spirit that guides and guards our days. The Spirit indwells believers giving us peace. As a believer I’m safe in the Lord.
How have we experienced peace this week?
Safe in the Lord,
