Psalm 139:1-4 NIV 2011

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.

This is David’s prayer asking God to look inside his heart and see his devotion to Him. God knows David perfectly. The Lord knows everything about David. Every action he makes, God sees. God knows David’s wants, needs and desires. Whatever David undertakes and how he does it, God sees it all. God knows David’s thoughts even before they are fully formed in his mind. The very words David is about to use, God knows them as well. Hebrews 4:13, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.” God knows everything about His people.

God’s Word is convicting especially when reading it on a daily basis. I used to point at all the people on those pages until I realized I was just like them but a twenty-first century variety. That was a humbling experience with new revelations; God’s Word is extremely relevant today. I’m no different than any of those people. I’m a sinner who was in need of a Savior. We all stand at the foot of the cross, saved by His Amazing Grace. Thankful God knows everything about me.

Why does God want to know us?
