Psalm 66:2-4 NIV 2011
Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious. Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing the praises of your name.”
The Psalter offered a song of praise because God had answered his prayer. This Psalm applies to God’s people today. It begins in verse one with a call to joyful praise, “Shout for joy to God.” Psalm 5:11, “But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.” 2 Samuel 22:45, “foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.” Those who know the Lord God sing songs to glorify His name because He alone is worthy of both worship and praise. Awesome power and authority are ascribed to the Almighty.
I recall driving in a torrential down pour in Ohio. I was struck by how rapidly it began. In less than ten minutes the streets were overflowing with rainwater. It was a picture illustrating how great our God truly is. Even during life’s storms, He is consistently there as my refuge. When the winds of discord blow across the world, God is on His throne. Ecclesiastes 1:4, “Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.” Our amazing God has power and authority over all.
How does God reveal His power daily?
