Acts 1:12,14 NIV 2011
Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. They all joined together constantly in prayer along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
Luke’s Gospel ended with the description of Jesus’ ascension. The book of Acts, written by Luke, began where his Gospel ended. Luke 24:51-52, “While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem.” It was at the Mount of Olives Jesus sent disciples for a donkey to ride into Jerusalem. Jesus’ model of prayer was the key to the disciples continued success spreading the Good News. Luke 18:1, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” God hears the persistent prayers of His people.
The Psalms are filled with many of David’s prayers. Jesus modeled prayer and prayed continually. Paul was a prayer warrior. In 1983 I became a prayer warrior. Though the answers to some of my prayers are, “no” or “wait” I continue to pray daily. There have been times when I did not know how to pray in a particular situation but God knew my heart and heard my petition. My favorite time of prayer is our quarterly prayer meeting at church. God hears our persistent prayers.
What prayer does God need to hear today?
