Hebrews 9:27-28 NIV 2011
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
The author of Hebrews stressed the absolute supremacy of Christ as the Savior. Choosing to give ones heart to Jesus and follow Him is a one-time event and brings salvation. Death brings God’s judgment for all. 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” Hebrews 5:9, “and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” Christ died for the sins of man. God forgives those covered by Jesus’ blood.
Spending the late afternoon and evening with our neighbor’s eighty-plus mother gave me the opportunity to remember my mother’s later years. I’ve always appreciated my younger sister’s care for her the last few years of her life. I’m sorry I was unable to be of more assistance and pray she forgives me for that. Following Christ does not mean I’m perfect, it means I’m forgiven. I’ll be judged for the times I did not share Jesus. Saved by Christ, I’m forgiven by God.
How has God forgiven you today?
