2 John 1:5-6 NIV 2011

And now dear lady, I am not writing you a new command…I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that we walk in love.

The apostle John wrote his second letter to a woman. It does not differ from any of his other writings. 1 John 2:7, “Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning.” His words were consistent throughout his writings as he quoted Jesus in His Gospel. John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commands.” Love was the key component to faith in Christ. 1 John 2:5, “But if anyone obeys his words, love for God is truly made compete in them.” God commands believers to walk obediently in love.

Christ model walking obediently in love almost two thousand years ago. His obedient walk to the cross gifted salvation to all who choose to follow Him. That is why many call today Good Friday because of what Christ accomplished at the cross. His sinless, selfless blood sacrifice on the cross covers my sinful self. I’m humbled daily knowing I deserve death but have been given eternal life through Christ. His death and resurrection give each of us hope. I’m commanded to walk obediently in love.

Who needs to know the love of Christ?

Walking obediently in love,
