Psalm 16:5-7 NIV2011
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in the pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.
David asked for God’s protection from the enemy that was threatening him. He remembered all that God had done for His people Israel as well as David himself. Job 22:26, “Surely then you find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God.” God’s cup is a blessing/salvation for all that call on the Lord. Psalm 116:13, “I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.” There is but one way to life and that is through God the Father. Psalm 72:24, “You guide me with your counsel.” The Lord God Almighty counsels all who follow Him.
Over the more than seventy years I’ve lived, lessons learned show God’s ways are much higher than my own. When I think of David and the man he was, I see how God uses us for His glory no matter how many times we slip, stumble and fall. Even though David intimately knew God, he still managed to mess things up along the way just as I’ve done. I love that God’s grace is greater than all my sins and daily He counsels me.
How is God revealing His counsel today?
